I have not read the article by Mr. Tharoor. It must be a wonderful reading. However, I have read another post by Mr. Tharoor. So stealing a page out of it - the following idea. The total number of MLAs in India is 4126. BJP alone holds the largest share with 1485 MLAs, Congress - 669 +, and other India block parties together with - 877 MLAs = 1546. The other NDA block parties have 328 MLAs. So total NDA strength =1813. So if you see the overall picture, the BJP and NDA are standing quite strong and tall.
I believe this picture speaks a lot. This says that definitely India is not Congress Mukt Bharat. This is despite Congress losing three Hindi-speaking states in the recently concluded election. Congress single-handedly almost matches all the major parties having hundred-plus MLAs. In the recent five-state election Congress secured 4.92 Crore Votes as against BJP’s 4.81 Crore vote share. This is a public voice. More people voted for Congress than BJP. Congress has definitely emerged stronger if we take the vote counts into consideration. And this is public mood speaking as late as November 2023
I always believe that India can not do without Congress. It is not about whether Congress is good or bad. Definitely, there are areas where Congress has gone strongly wrong, moderately wrong, and somewhat wrong to lose power in so many states and finally lose power at the center. There is no denying that Congress has been at the receiving end. But at the same time, it's not burnt force. It's alive and kicking, jostling with energy. I sometimes wonder whether the English language took the word from Hindi - “Josh” to Jostle or jostling?
However, Congress committing some mistakes and not being able to keep pace with time is quite normal and in the expected line of happening. I had been associated with one of the oldest and major corporate houses in India. At times I felt it was painstakingly slow. Because certain values and legacies have been passed on from one generation to the other. The tug of war between modernization and holding old values keeps on going. The organization has possibly one of the top ten most beautiful and largest modern offices in India. However yet in certain matters, things move slowly. Firing somebody is the most difficult task unless it's a disciplinary or morality issue. Another aspect could be aggression. But then you wouldn’t expect an old man to be very aggressive. This is typically associated with most organizations with a strong legacy and heritage. It goes into DNA. Congress finding it difficult to fire the junk like Digvijay Singh.
But we had a very strong culture of togetherness and values. What Congress needs to do is a Let’s Talk survey amongst its members and the public in general asking what are the 5 –10 things they would like Congress to change or work on. Congress leadership could choose the top three issues that the public wants it to address. You will be surprised that quite often the top three areas are not so difficult to address.
Sorry, I got digressed a little. However, I have already shown that Congress still occupies a pretty large mind share of Indians. And there would be a huge number of voters who would be ready to vote for Congress with little change. If India is to hold the spirit of democracy, it can not do so by discarding Congress. Because apart from the BJP, it is the only part that is playing the role of a national party pan India. What is the next big option for the people of India after the BJP? The number shown above clearly speaks that it is Congress.
Congress is definitely not all good but it is better or better placed than others to compete with BJP. The total number of MLAs speaks that. And the recent elections vote share also speaks that. People have to choose from the best option available. Discarding Congress would be a great mistake. Like Congress needs votes, people also need an alternate platform to tell the BJP that if you are ruling properly we have another option ready. But suppose tomorrow there is no Congress then you have no option to choose. Whether you like it or not you have to vote for BJP.
It's like only “Daal” and Rice has been cooked for Dinner, you like it or dislike it you have to take Rice & Daal. You have no choice left. Let’s assume that your parents serve you Rice Daal and Chicken. Suppose you only take Chicken, what will happen? They will remove Daal from the menu completely. Now suppose someday you got totally faded up of eating Chicken and you want Daal. But there is no Daal and you have to eat chicken only. So keep the option open and alive. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
My answer ends here. You may stop reading ahead.
Illustration of the skewness and kurtosis values and how they correlate with the shape of the height distribution function (HDF).
This is a bit technical. But let me explain. Skewness means the distribution of values closer to central values or defined central lines. In the first diagram, the red line defines the central and the curve represents the spread of values. While Kutosys defines the distribution of the values.
The mean (average) of a data set is found by adding all numbers in the data set and then dividing by the number of values in the set. The median is the middle value when a data set is ordered from least to greatest. The mode is the number that occurs most often in a data set.
I will exactly not go to mean, median, and mode. I would go by skewness and kurtosis but not touch the mathematics part. Look at the second diagram and the right-hand side graph. In the bottom line, the values are spread and not very skewed. We have a larger distribution means kurtosis. But look at the 2nd and the 3rd line graph, almost at all the points the values are higher than the center value of the first graph. It means to grow exponentially you need not give up your values and ethos. In the first graph to get a certain quality around the center value we have to take a cutoff point, say +/- 5 and that will lead to lots of wastage. But in the 2nd and the 3rd graph even without any cut off we are getting a much larger base without losing focus on the central values. This is possible when you go for excellence and paradigm shift.
When a legacy house like Congress has to compete with young organizations like BJP, it's very difficult to match the speed and aggressiveness. But it is absolutely possible even for the Legacy houses to compete with the young houses provided you can explain your value proposition better.
This is how Mercedes stole the thunder from BMW on its 100th Anniversary. When BMW celebrated its 100th birthday, Mercedes put this complementing note.
Another competitor Porsche was a little more genuine with their ad which reads “The future presents us with great challenges. We face them with sheer driving pleasure. Porsche bows to 100 years of moving automobile history and wholeheartedly congratulates BMW on this jubilee”. Porsche automobile brand began in 1948, so they decided to speak about the future. While Mercedes highlighted its rich heritage and legacy value. Mercedes has gone for excellence holding both legacy as well as technology. You can say the 2nd & the 3rd line graph. There could be new automobile manufacturers would might compete with Mercedes on the technology front but they can not bring the heritage value to the platter. All three players have different and distinguished lines. On the technology front, all three are driving excellence and coming up with trendy designs. In fact, Mercedes has been more aggressive on the design front in recent years. It is giving a run for the money to its younger brothers - BMW & Porsche. Amazing all three are from Germany only.
