The Second largest economy today in India and 5th largest economy in the world are just some statements. These statements don’t make any sense. Let me tell a small non-veg story before they stop selling non-veg in the market. A guy was showing off his muscular body to his wife. The wife just looked and snapped at him - ”does it supposed to make any sense to me? You show your muscle power to me where it matters” The husband got punctured.
When they make these statements just ask them so what or what next? Remember my above story. Recently I saw a matrimonial Ad. It was specifically mentioned that the guys who don’t last long need not apply. The lady was very categorical about what mattered to her. She wasn’t talking about bicep or tricep. A bodybuilder’s huge body generally serves no purpose other than to display. They can’t even lift heavy weights. They don’t win medals in performing sports like shotput throw, Javelin throw, Discus throw, wrestling, weight lifting, or powerlifting.
The UAE and other Gulf countries are a major source of remittance flows to India. Pawan Singh / The National
I just read that India has achieved the highest amount of remittance inflows in the world in 2023 at USD 125 billion. Apparently, it sounds to be great news. But do you know what it exactly means? It means more Indians are going abroad searching for jobs and livelihood. India doesn’t generate sufficient employment or not being able to pay adequately. A strong economy creates more employment in-house, pulls back resources from abroad, and stops the brain drain. Has anything of that sort happened for India? China earned only $50 billion in remittances in the same period. This means less number of Chinese have to go abroad in search of jobs. With similar population pressure China generates much more jobs than India. Whereas India's remittance earnings are only going up.
Indians now represent over 10% of all visa applicants worldwide, with 20% of student visa applicants and 65% of employment visa applicants. It's not that Indians go only for high-salaried and high-skilled jobs. UAE alone contributes 18 percent of India’s remittance earnings. I have already said that this kind of statement doesn’t impress me or make any sense to me. When someone says that UP is the Second largest economy today in India. My return question - is whether people from UP have stopped going to other states seeking employment. If not then please shut up. Remember the story I have referred to. The wives have got a few very very specific and practical measurements about how good a husband is. I go by those measurements in economics as well. The size of the GDP etc doesn’t matter to me. The GDP should be measured by the potency meter. You know what I mean. the potency meter is a brilliant instrument to measure the strength of the economy. It can be used in many other fields.
