I will be using an unconventional approach referring to milk consumption to address this question, so request the readers to have a little patience and read to the end.
Lactose intolerance. Milk is supposed to be good for health. However, there are many people who can’t digest milk, particularly adults. Humans are the only mammal that consumes milk even after growing up.
Lactose is a type of sugar found in milk. The inability to digest this sugar is called lactose intolerance. As a kid, one's body can break down lactose but as we grow up, most people lose their ability to break lactose. This is a natural process since we are not technically required to consume milk once we grow up. As we are no longer entirely dependent on milk as a dietary supplement. For digestion of lactose content in milk our intestine secrets an enzyme called Lactase, which is responsible for milk digestion. As we grow up our intestine stop producing or reduce the production of Lactase, particularly if someone discontinues milk intake for a considerable period. Almost, 60 to 65 percent of people (adults) in India are lactose intolerant, which many of us are not aware of even.
Milk intolerance can be mild or severe. The symptoms usually begin 30 minutes to two hours after eating or drinking milk or other dairy products. The symptoms also include bloating, pain, cramps, rumbling sound in the belly, gas, vomiting, or loose and foamy stools.
At one point of time, I studied a little bit of food & nutrition. I was working on a project on pediatric nutrition and neonatal care (nutrition), particularly for normal full-term infants weighing less than 2.5 Kg what we commonly call underweight. Birth weight of more than 2.5 Kg is considered a healthy weight And milk essentially was the subject of intense study. I think we can draw a parallel between Lactose intolerance and Modi’s media intolerance. There is great symmetry.
Vegetarian people, in particular, depend on milk & milk-related products for protein supplements. Milk has vitamin D, calcium, vitamin B2, vitamin B12, potassium, and phosphorus in it. It also has some vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, zinc, and magnesium. For vegetarians, milk is one major source of calcium. In fact, studies say one should consume at least two-three types of milk products daily. Experts believe because milk is a good source of protein, calcium, and immunity-boosting minerals, one must definitely consume it if they are not lactose intolerant.
Now when I Modi's problem with press meet is exactly as milk intolerance. In spite of so many benefits, so many adults can not consume milk for lactose intolerance. Similarly, Modi also can not do press meet in spite press meet have so much benefit if you can digest the question of the reporters. Modi suffers from reporter question intolerance since his intestine ( brain in this case) does not secret the right kind of enzyme to digest the questions. So Modi avoids press meet. We have seen his interview with Karan Thapar, where Modi walkout even before halfway through.
But Modi is intelligent, he has found out an alternative way. Like the people suffering from milk intolerance try dairy in other forms like buttermilk, curd, or yogurt. Modi also uses the alternative route. He gives pre charted interviews to pro-Modi reporters where the question-answer sessions are designed in such a way that will glorify Modi. They will ask harmless questions like where you get so much energy, etc. They will not ask uncomfortable questions or counter his replies. Modi is extremely aware of the advantages of media presence like I know the benefit of milk. He knows that he can’s digest milk, ops I am sorry reporters questions, so he takes curd -I mean to say that he attends media sessions in his own way and there is his “Mann Ki Baat”. Modi’s media-TV presence is no way less than any other PM. So he is on a healthy diet so far media presence is concerned. He is having all the goodness of milk-media.
Like the grown-up adult who has not taken milk for a considerable period suffers from lactose intolerance, Modi also suffers from media intolerance problem. And this is not a reversible condition, you can not force your intestine to produce lactase. Similarly, Modi’s media intolerance is not a reversible condition at this age since he has not taken milk (sorry press meet) all these years so the enzyme secretion has been stopped. He shouldn’t try holding one else he may suffer from bloating, pain, cramps, rumbling sound in the belly, gas, vomiting, or loose motion, and other conditions associated with media intolerance.
