None. No, I am not making this comment because I love the Gandhi family very much, But there is a bigger logic for making this statement, which is universally applicable in all spheres of life.
There is a standard rule applicable in life whichever field you are in, you have to show your caliber first to get the coveted post or assignment. Suppose you want admission in the best IIT/ IIM/AIIMS etc your test score has to be top of the chart. Do whatever you want to do, but you have to be at the top. And even after getting admission, there would be another fight to be the topper of your batch. Similarly, if you want to get IAS, you have to be higher in the chart in the Civil Service Exam.
In sports also the same principle applies. You have to constantly knock on the door of BCCI with your Ranji performance to get entry into the Indian team. and then you have to play consistently well to be considered for the captaincy.
In the corporate house also you get selected when you do better than the other candidates. Similarly, you get promoted ahead of others only when you prove your caliber. There are CEOs and Business Heads who are in their thirties bypassing more senior (in terms of age) executives. Tendulkar got into the Indian team at 16+
Politics is no exception. People without any background have excelled in politics. There is a big list of such people who have grown big from the ordinary background - Modi. Mamata, Yogi, HBS, Vajpayee, Advani… Nothing could stop them.
You can say Congress is a family-held organization. But even them Rao could become PM. MMS became PM for two-term, even though it was a makeshift arrangement. But he was to hold the position for two consecutive terms, there was no shortage of people in Congress who wouldn’t have minded to play a similar role. Congress was/is full of chamchas ( spoons). Why MMS was the choice of everybody?
We quite often talk about leaders like Jyotiraditya and Sachin Pilot etc. But what they have achieved in state politics. They have to fight their share of battles for supremacy wherever they are. Even if it means switching parties. For example, HBS was looking for CM chair, but Congress High Command didn’t bother to listen to him. So he joined BJP and within 5 years he has become CM, And even before becoming CM, he was defacto CM for all practical purposes. He was knocking on the door of late CM Tarun Gogoi, he was knocking on the door of Modi & Amit Shah to make him CM. Nobody could have stopped him from becoming CM. This is caliber.
And HBS didn’t betray Congress. When he joined BJP, he joined BJP alone but demanded full honour and extracted the same. Where Scindia betrayed Congress and sold his loyalty by joining BJP along with 22 MLS. And what was the price - an RS seat and a cabinet berth.
Is this the kind of leadership with which you can ask for party presidentship or the chair of PM? Let's have a look at the list of G23 leaders who wrote to Sonia Gandhi. The list includes five former chief ministers, sitting MPs Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari, members of Congress Working Committee, and over a dozen former union ministers with years of political experience. The list includes names like Bhupinder Singh Hooda-ex CM of Haryana, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal-ex-CM of Punjab, Marpadi Veerappa Moily-ex CM of Karnataka, Prithviraj Chavan - ex-CM Maharastra, Ghulam Nabi Azad - ex-CM of J&K.
Do you think any of them are strong enough or capable enough to replace or dislodge Sonia Gandhi? Forget about individually, together all these 23 leaders couldn’t make any impact neither nationally nor on Congress. Blaming somebody wouldn’t help. Not that Sonia’s life has been the bed of roses. Everybody has to have their share of struggles and battles to fight.
If there would have been any right candidate, he would have definitely pushed his head up whether Sonia wanted it or not. He would have kept on knocking on the door till such time it opens. Rather he would have kept on banging on the door. Either it would have opened or it would have broken.
When Ganguly was captain, Dhoni was already knocking on the door. When Dhoni was going strong, Virat already started knocking on the door. When Virat was going strong, Rohit Sharma was already knocking on the door. Nobody could stop them, and this is pure on the basis of merit. Now tell me who is knocking on the door of Sonia? It's Mamata, nobody from inside Congress. Now, do you compare anyone from the G23 with Mamata?
