ts long time we know that Modiji doesn’t do press conference apart from his rendezvous with Rajat Sharma episode before 2019 Parliamentary election. I believe the trend is not going to be changed till such time he is in office, possibly even after that. I think we should learn to live with it. Modiji has been elected for 2nd term in office without doing a single press conference, so it proved he doesn’t required to do press conference, or he can win election without doing a single press conference. Well its a loss to the press fraternity for not getting the opportunity to ask question or grill the Prime Minister directly. Unfortunately they have to live with it.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attends first ‘press conference’, answers no questions
Why Modily doesn’t hold any press conference is million dollar question, for which we don’t have any satisfactory answer apart from making some wild guess. But then the very obvious answer could be that he is one of those few leaders who can afford not to hold a single press conference and still manage to get re-elected. Now this answer put all other assumption to rest. Why should he do something not necessary from his point of view. Secondly he is already at the top post, he doesn’t have to impress any Boss to get promoted or to go up the ladder. His cabinet ministers does’t have the liberty, they can not afford ignore the press.
Now lets see why political leaders across world hold press meets ?
a. They are accountable and answerable to the nation, to address queries first hand.
b. They want to keep a straight way connect & communicate with the people.
c. They find press meet helpful to run the government, and informing people on important matter without any barrier as well as to avoid any rumour.
d. Press meets are important part of office profile.
e. They enjoy facing and answering tricky question from reporter. Its way to show and prove witticism
Modiji is a great orator per excellence and he is extremely proficient in building up connect with his audience, as well witty as best possible. I do not see any reason why should he avoid press meet. But fact remains that he would not hold press meet whether we like it or dislike.
Any way he has learned to manage without the press meet. But he is fully aware of questions people would like to ask him. In most cases he answer those question in his address in the rallies, of course in his own style and at his condition. That means only he would decide which question he would choose, or he feels necessary to address. Though before 2019 parliamentary election, he found it productive to have a interview session with India TV's Editor-In-Chief Rajat Sharma
The Karan Thapar interview that didn't last for more than three minutes - Thapar known for his hard hitting question started with by invoking the communal riots of 2002 in Gujarat. Thapar persisted with the topic, citing supreme court observation. Modiji said he didn’t think it was necessary to answer questions about 2002 in 2007. He then said he wanted to rest and asked for a glass of water. Thapar soon understood that the interview is going to be terminated. Thapar spent an hour convincing Modi to re-shoot the interview but the chief minister declined.
