Why does BJP and Modi always keep on blaming Nehru for everything?

There could be multiple analogy to this blame game. It doesn’t have any correlation whether Nehru was good or bad. And even if Nehru was bad, he doesn’t stop Modi G from doing his work. Rather things where Nehru failed or made mistake are the opportunity for Modi to show his performance - like that of scrapping of Article 370. If Nehru would have done everything perfectly there wouldn’t have been any scope for Modi to play the blame game or to show his performance. I think Modi should rather thank Nehru for not doing certain things or doing certain things wrongly or for doing certain mistakes. The fact that BJP has got the opportunity to come to power has a lot to do with these mistakes / misrule / corruption etc. Otherwise Congress would have continued to be in power.

There are people who would constantly keep on blaming others or situation / environment for their failure in life, this mostly happens on personal front. This mostly act an excuse for failure in their life. For everything bad in their life they will hold somebody else responsible. But finally the blame game doesn’t help them to improve their life.

Whereas there are another set of people who shines or perform in the same set of atmosphere or environment of adversity or negativity. They do not rely on blame game or giving excuse. They work on their domain, domain of influence and become successful. Rather adversity gives them more motivation. They try to beat the adverse condition to become successful, as there is no alternate way.

Both the above characteristics are common individual traits of people. Now let see why Modi G is playing these blame game in political field. Narendra Modi was not even born when Nehru became Prime Minister. How often do you blame your grandfather or great grandfather for things not happening in your life. Possibly Nehru would be contemporary to Modi’s great grand father. He couldn’t have harm Modi personally, at least we don’t know anything about Modi’s personal misfortune which could be directly linked to Nehru apart from of-course blaming Nehru for overall condition of the country.

If we go by Modi G’s blame game practice or strategy Nehru should have blamed everybody from Khilji- Babur, Aurangzeb to British. But I believe post independence he didn’t resort to any blame game. There could be apparently three reason for that. First there was no way to get any benefit form such a blame game. Second he didn’t require to play the blame game to win the election. Third- he believed in working out himself, creating himself.

While Nehru took over the reign, India was in depleted condition plagued with thousands of issue from poverty, illiteracy, lack of infrastructure, health, partition, riot, famine the list goes on. Challenges were immense and nowhere to get money, neither external borrowing nor internal borrowing. But he and his team decided to work steadfastly to build the nation. His focus were on everywhere for setting up IIT ( In 1951 ), IIM ( In 1961 ) to AIIMS In 1956 ). He was a visionary leader. You have to salute his vision and far sight who could understand importance & necessity of setting up an IIT way back in 1951, or an AIIMS in 1956 and an IIM in 1961. You don’t often see leaders who could see things ahead of time. Immediately after independence he called up Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha to set up Atomic Energy Commission of India in 1948. If today India is a proud nuclear power, credit goes to Nehru for his visionary leadership. It would be difficult for today’s generation to understand the challenges and constraints faced in those days.

Below is the picture where a missile is transported on bicycle in 1963 and a satellite is being transported in a bullock cart in 1981

Today it is easier to criticize him, but under his leadership democracy prevailed however feeble. Rather India is rated as a strong democracy. India has not gone the way like so many other countries., take the example of our very own neighbor Pakistan. So many other countries got disintegrated, India had the perfect recipe for disintegration looking in to our diversity. But India survived, Indian democracy survived, we have to acknowledge it.

Does it mean that I support every action of Nehru ? No I am a great critic of Nehru. He has his share of blame for partition, Kashmir issue, not handling Pakistan issue properly, appeasement policy and many more.

But while saying so, we do not know the ground reality, constraints and compulsion 75 years back. Neither Nehru is alive to give us the explanation. Whatever we get to know are based on articles or book written by people and the way things stands today.. My only point is that when you criticize him, praise his as well for the good thing he did.

Coming back to the question why Modi G blame Nehru. The blame game is purely to get political mileage. Modi G need to create his own legacy - just changing name of places, department ( Planning Commission to Niti Aayog, Institute of Eminance ) ect would not do. Focus on governance, strengthen democracy. It is often blamed that Modi G making foundation of democracy weak. He can continue playing blame game, if it please him. But it is not going to help him much. Ultimately people are going to evaluate him on his performance independently. Well there could be comparison of performance.

But your success and your great grand father’s success or failure can not be put in one platform for comparison. If it is to be compared the scale has to be adjusted. Like someone earning Rs.1000/- in 1951 could possibly be compared to people earning 1 Crore today.
